Leading Minds Chinese, A Happy Day

Happiness
By Jean Pullman

Happiness is my high.
Happiness feels great inside.

Happiness is quite rare.
Happiness is barely there.
Happiness comes when I am around friends.

Happiness always ends.
Happiness I want more.
Happiness I adore.

Happiness is when my mom calls.
Happiness is when watching waterfalls.

Happiness is my high.
Happiness feels good inside.

Leading Minds Chinese, My Father

My Father
By Nicholas Gordon

Before I was myself you made me, me
With love and patience, discipline and tears,
Then bit by bit stepped back to set me free,
Allowing me to sail upon my sea,

Though well within the headlands of your fears.

Before I was myself you made me, me
With dreams enough of what I was to be

And hopes that would be sculpted by the years,
Then bit by bit stepped back to set me free,
Relinquishing your powers gradually

To let me shape myself among my peers.

Before I was myself you made me, me,
And being good and wise, you gracefully

As dancers when the last sweet cadence nears
Bit by bit stepped back to set me free.

For love inspires learning naturally:
The mind assents to what the heart reveres.
And so it was through love you made me, me
By slowly stepping back to set me free.

Leading Minds English, Composition Beyond Creativity

Ebenezer Chan, Primary 3

Essay 1.
It was a dreadful day at school. My teacher had assigned a lot of homework for us to do. I walked along the pavement to the bus stop with a heavy heart. I cursed silently as I felt run down after a hard day’s work.

Then, I heard someone screaming. The Scream was from a nearby voiddeck. I went there to take a look, I was shocked to see a young boy bullied by some big boys! I quickly called the police. After five minutes, the police came. They managed to capture the big boys. Then I went to calm the little boy downand asked him where he lived. I brought him back home.

The little boy was delighted to see his parents and explained to them what had happened. His parents thanked me and my parents awarded me for doing a good deed.

Essay 2.
This picture dipics a sceen at the bird park. It is a sunny day. This is a local bird park. There are man-made waterfalls. There are also swans, ducks, parrots, a peacock and a flamingo.

There are many people too. There is a sign board. Many people are sitting the train. There is a bridge for people to walk across the pond. There are two girls talking loudly about the peacock. Probably they are talking about the peacock that is beautiful. There is a woman standing beside them. She is taking pictures of the flamingo. I think those people at the bird park will have a wonderful day.

Essay 3.
It was a bright and sunny morning. Our family decided to go for a picnic at the beach. We brought along our ball, spade and food.

When we reached our destination, we changed into our swim suits and started playing. My sister decided to build sandcastles while I wanted to catch lobsters and fishes. When my sister is digging the sand, something hard stucked the spade, soon it became soft.

My sister called out to me, “Ebenezer, come here!” I quickly ran towards her and I used the spade to scoop the thing up. To our surprise, it was a wallet! My sister asked me to open it to find out more information about it. We opened it up and saw an identity card. It was Mr Lim’s wallet. There were also stacks of hundred dollars.

Suddenly, we saw Mr Lim, we quickly ran up to him and told him that he had dropped his wallet. He was very happy. He thanked us profusely.

Leading Minds English, Thinking Comprehension

Benny Ong, Primary 5

I think that the parents in this story should have given the writer more common names, like Ben Brown, Zack Brown or Dan Brown, instead of Electra Brown. They should have considered more carefully before choosing their son’s name.

I also think that they should not follow other people to use places’ names as their son’s name or daughter’s name. They should name their sons using their own ways or methods.

I also think that some of the names were very funny like Jasmine, Sorrel and Basil. All these names were named after herbs. Maybe their mother liked herbs a lot.

In the last paragraph, I still cannot understand why the writer’s dad was leaving. The writer should have specifically told the readers why his dad was leaving.

Vivian Chan Hui Wen, Primary 6

I think that when parents give their children a name, they should think about when their children grow up, will their name embarrassed them or being made fun of, especially when the children are in school. If there is really a law to allow children to change their names if they do not like the name their parents gave them. I think tere should be a rule to say that they are only allowed to change their names when they are a teenager. When a child has become a teenager, he or she will start to think about their future and now, whether their names would be made fun of when they are in school or when they grow up.

The writer is being named Electra Brown by her parents. I think that she does not like the name that her parents had given her. Her parents should not have named her the same way her aunt has named her cousin. They did not think about when the writer grows up, will she be made fun of or teased. Now, the writer is being made fun of by some boys in school. When she has a nickname, the boys also teased her.

We should not teased others or make fun of their names even though how weird or funny their names are. Before we make fun of others, we should think about how the other person would feel. If others teased us, will we like it? We should always spare a thought of others.

A Fight

“Why is the queue so long? I have already stood for thirty minutes,” I complained. I was in a queue buying tickets for the show “Transformers, Revenge of the Fallen”. When I was going to reach the ticket counter, somebody dashed and cut in the queue. He was standing directly in front of me. I was furious. A wave of anger swept over me. “Why did you cut the queue, can’t you see it, you blind rat?” I screamed at the person when he turned around and stared at me.

His eyes were bulging like saucepans. To me, I was a rat and he was a cat, drooling to eat me up. I was very scared of his frightening stare. “Can’t you just shut up? Furthermore, it’s none of your business!” The person shouted at me. I quickly cowered as I was scared that he would beat me up.

The others behind me were glaring at him. They even yelled at him, “Get lost! You are the one who’s cutting the queue!” The man got agitated and he was angry. He kicked one of the people on the buttocks before boxing another person on his face. Nobody dared to stop him as they were afraid that they would be the next one to be beaten up black and blue.

I was rooted to the ground. Beads of perspiration trickled down my forehead. Shivers ran down my spine and hundred of thoughts raced through my mind. Suddenly, I thought of an idea, “Why don’t I call the police?” I whipped out my phone and dialed 999. I informed the police about the incident and they quickly rushed to the scene.

When the man had finished beating up the two people, he walked away, cackling like a witch. Suddenly, two policemen appeared and he was shocked to see them. He ran away as fast as his legs could carry them to. But, nobody could escape from the quick-thinking policemen. When the man ran into an alley, they went by the sides of the alley and caught him unaware. The man tried to escape but he could not as he was surrounded. One policeman pushed the man down before handcuffing him. The man tried to struggle but the other policeman held his hands tightly. In the end, he was caught and sent to the police station.

As for me, my mood was already spoilt by him before watching the movie. I decided not to watch the movie and I walked away, thinking about the incident just now.
